...Miaka Yuuki and her friend, Yui Hongo, go to the library to return a book. While Miaka waits for Yui, she wanders upstairs to a secluded room. There, she and Yui open a booked called "The Universe of the Four Gods". Upon turning the page, the two are sent to ancient China. There, Miaka and Yui are attacked by thugs. But a young man with the mark of the ogre appears and saves them. Suddenly, Yui is sent back home while Miaka stays behind. Now, Miaka and the young man, Tamahome, venture to the Konan Empire where they are kidnapped. Later, the emperor determines that Miaka the Suzaku No Miko. By gathering the seven Seishi of Suzaku, Miaka will be granted three wishes. Unfortunately, Yui returns to the book world where she becomes Miaka's enemy.
