...Utena Tenjou lost her parents at a very young age. Ready to give up, Utena was confronted by a prince. He gave her a rose crested ring and courage. From then on, Utena wanted to become a prince. Now as a teenager at the Ohtori Academy, Utena is a rebel who prefers to dress as a boy rather than a girl. After her friend, Wakaba, is embarrassed by Kyouchi of the Student Council, Utena confronts him. The two have a duel in the dueling arena behind the school. It seems everyone in the Student Council has the same signet as the one Utena wears. In the ring, Utena sees her classmate, Anthy Himemiya, dressed as the Rose Bride. She is Kyouichi's bethrothed. Whoever wins the duel will become the Rose Bride's fiance. Utena wins the battle, thus taking Kyouichi's place. With the Rose Bride, anyone is capable of revolutionize the world for the taking.
